self portrait advice needed

help ! tried to do self portrait with self timer but the photos are all blurry as if it not in focus , so how do i sort that !?

nikon D80
nikon 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-s IF-ED
50mm nifty fifty

It may be because the camera is focusing on the wall behind you.

Do you have a sports mode where the camer automaticaly tracks objects? That way it might autofocus on you when you get in the frame.

The other way would be to put an object where your head will be in the shot, and let the camera focus on that and then get in its place for the shot

tried all kind of mode settings wanted to try aperture my fave but was not sure how wide to set it to ? will try azz advice as i do think it may be coz there nothing to focus at while im clicking the cam !still it would be great if you have more tips for me!!

thanks for the tips azz !think we gonna have to wait abit as poor me have a cold and dont like to crack my lens lol

Yes - Azz is spot on... Focus on something the same distance from the camera as you will want to be... Activate the shutter, position the camera, and then run to get into the frame just in time... You'll have to be quick
