looking for filters

I'm going to have a bit of a landscape photo fest whilst i'm on holiday so (apart from another memory card) I've finally decided to pick up a UV and a Polarising filter.

Any tips or suggestions ?

You should ideally look at getting a Multi Coated filter rather than a single coated one. Personally I only use MRC or Super MRC filters. I tend to purchase HOYA products but B&W are also reasonable.

I keep a UV filter on all of my lenses, however I do have a polarising filter for one. You will need to decide what lenses you want the different filters on (unless you buy a set for each which could get rather expensive!) as invariably your lenses will take different size filters.

Re: looking for filters

As far as size goes - I'm just after 52mm just now for my Nikon 18-55mm lens.

My 75-300 is a wider fit but I use it less.

Seen some good deals on HOYA on e-bay

Re: looking for filters

HOYA filters seem very popular i have a few. I have an Infrared one which cost about £50 not used it yet though.

A polarising filter is great fro landscape photography and does wonders for the sky!

Funny you should say that - we're of to the Ardnamurchan peninsular for a week - lots of water and big sky.

Re: looking for filters

If you can afford it Phil, get a Kokin carrier, you can do all sorts with it, and using a polarising filter, it's easier to rotate the filter.

Re: looking for filters

I'm sure you'll know this already - but just in case - make sure you get a circular polariser if using auto focus lenses... Otherwise your camera may get a little confused... Linear polarisers are best suited to manual focus traditional 35mm cameras.... We look forward to seeing your polarised shots....
