Finlaystone country estate (40d)

Finally got good weather today to test my Canon 40d...I had never been to this place before and had never heard of it either , even though its only less than 10miles from where I live. I came across it because I googled "waterfalls in Renfrewshire", and it looked the perfect place to test the 40d

I took Rose (Brandykin's on here) and Loki with me also.

All taken with a Canon eos 40d and 17-40mm L lens.

Canon 5D MKII
Canon 400mm f5.6 L
Canon 70-200mm f4.0 L

WOW! They are totally stunning! Love the flower pics and the waterfall slow-mo

You must be dead chuffed!!

Just a quick question, did you do much PP or is that straigh outta the camera? Also, have you used the same lens on your old camera? If so any pics from that too so we can compare?

Cheers! And I look forward to more pics

Stunning photographs! I especially like the top two waterfall shots and the last flower capture. What Aperture and Shutter speed were you using for the waterfalls?

Did you have a filter on your lens?

Thanks Azz. Yes I'm over the moon with this camera so far although it has a differant layout from the 400d, I found it very easy to use compared to the 400d e.g changing certain functions like drive mode, timer, Iso, focus point selection, etc etc. I've not had to look at the little booklet yet, to know how to change something, but I do think the size and the position of the various buttons on the 40d makes life easier.

There was very little pp done Azz, just the usual RAW pp in Canon digital photo professional, white balance etc. Then converted to 16bit tiff and opened up in elements 5, then resized and a little USM applied and saved for web. I was amazed how the images just jumped right out at me and how little, if any pp was needed

I used the 17-40 on the 400, and 350 I think. I'm not at my own pc at the moment, Azz, but I'll dig some images out later and post them. I have more Finlaystone country estate pics to post as well

Thanks Kanikula, I didnt think there were any near where I live either, until I searched google. Maybe there is a river, burn or stream near you that you could try,as long as its running water then I'm sure you could get a similar effect.

Thanks Greyhawk, I'm not at my own pc at the moment so I cannot be precise, and there is no exif data on the pics either(as you have probablly guessed). the aperture for the waterfall shots would have been around f16-f22 and ISO 100, the exposure would have been 3 or 4 seconds long, maybe more. The only filter used was the UV which I have on all my lenses for protection. I dont have a polarizing filter yet, but it will be next on my list. The waterfalls(large one) were a little weak to try and get the effect I was after, and there was also to much light getting through. I wll go back to this place once I get a polarizing filter, and hopefully (after a lot of rain) the waterfalls will be really flowing

I forgot to mention the benefit of having a versatile tripod such as the Manfrotto 190MF4, It allowed me to take the first watterfall pic at ground level by simply unscrewing the middle section of the tripod and then spreading the legs flat.
