Picfolio.com - for Yo! Photographers First :-)

One of our pals (YoP member Nick) has just launched a new picture hosting and gallery site. It can be used either as an online gallery or as a picture host where you can upload pics and then post those pics on YoP!

www.Picfolio.com

We're the first to be told about it and it is especially aimed at photographers as it allows image uploads to the size of a whopping 7MB!! (Probably the only pic host that allows this at present?!).

There are other cool features there too, so why not go check it out

Re: Picfolio.com - for Yo! Photographers First :-)

Hi Azz, Phil and Melody,

Thanks for the feedback and for taking the trouble to have a look

Looks like I'll have to up the size to at least 10 megs then!!!! I think my webmaster Sean set the max pic size to 2000 pixels square but really there's no limit to what we can set it at.

What would your ideal setup be? All feedback gratefully accepted -I need it as it's really hard to compete against the Big Boys

There are only three of us here, so we really are mini-Davids versus Mega Goliaths!!

Cheers,

Nick

Re: Picfolio.com - for Yo! Photographers First :-)

I think removing the limit on pixel size would be good as it is handy for when you want to see a pic in it's original form

Re: Picfolio.com - for Yo! Photographers First :-)

Hi Nick

Thought this may be of use (swiped from Flickr) as it lists the various stats on uploads. Worth mentioning it's a 5MB limit on a free account.

There's no limit to the number of photos you can have. But if you have a free account, you'll only see the most recent 200 photos displayed.

With a free account, you can upload up to 100MB per month. You can see how much you've uploaded on the upload page.

If you upgrade to a Pro account, all the photos you add to Flickr will always be available to your friends and family.

Are there limits on file sizes or file types for uploads?

With a free account, you can upload files up to 5MB in size. If you have a Pro account, you can upload files up to 10MB.

Flickr officially supports JPEGs, non-animated GIFs, and PNGs. You can also upload TIFFs and some other file types, but they will automatically be converted to and stored in JPEG format.

As you publish photos, they're compressed and resized by Flickr (if necessary) in the following sizes:

75x75 pixels
100 pixels (on the longest side)
240 pixels
500 pixels
Large (which will be 1024 pixels if it exceeds that length)
The original size (if you have a pro account)
To access all of these sizes for a photo, click the "All Sizes" link below on the individual photo page or the "See different sizes" link below the Additional Information heading.

If you have a pro account, we also store your high-resolution originals, which you (and your friends with Pro accounts) can download at anytime. All Pro account holders can access public photos and download the high-resolution (original) size, unless you limit access to the downloadable image.

Re: Picfolio.com - for Yo! Photographers First :-)

Not having to resize would be a HUGE improvement Nick ..massive. I really cannot go through all my pics and resize them and, as Azz says, seeing pics at their full size is often muh better than seeing a cut down version

Re: Picfolio.com - for Yo! Photographers First :-)

Nick

Thought I'd have a play so I created an account and set up an album.

I then uploaded a picture (from file) which it says has been uploaded successfuly but then when I click the 'continue' button (to add the picture to an album) it gives me the internet cannot display webpage page.
