How much should I insure this kit for?

do i insure this for??

looking into insuring my camera/lenses on the household insurance.... but i assume they will want to know a value...

i also assume cameras hold their value well??

nikon d60
18-55mm lense
70-300mm lense
then i have a wide angle lense and some filters but not too worried about these -

any ideas on value?

i do have a 3 year warranty but that does not cover theft!

thanks

Re: How much should I insure this kit for?

I would price the lot at the cost to replace individually regardless of whether you got them as a kit.

Might be worth checking that you're not covered anyway on your house contents.
Kit 1
Canon EOS 40D Gripped
Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4.0-5.6 IS USM
Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM
Kit 2
Canon EOS 1D MkIII
Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM
Canon EF 50mm f1.8

Re: How much should I insure this kit for?

Dedicated camera insurance companies usually like everything itemised including serial numbers and replacement costs. Always best to give this even on house insurance.

Re: How much should I insure this kit for?

ok great thanks

if i were to sell... long story - but it involves a dog and lack of insurance..(not my fault)!

would it be worth anywhere near what i paid??

it would absoloutely kill me to sell it but if it came to it im afraid this is one of the first things to go....

but for now i will get it down on the household insurance

Lenses seem to hold their value , better than bodies.

Also, if they were new when you bought them, if you are selling them on, and how long, and how much you have used it.

Coming back to this thread......I could be reading this all wrong (it's late) but are you saying you have a problem with a dog which the camera gear might help fund ?

I could be barking up the wrong tree here but if so let us know...

Re: How much should I insure this kit for?

hi phil

shouldbe ok but basically my dog is going to be costing me £100 a month ++ for basic treatment as her insurers wont cover her for this (if you want to know specifics im happy to pm you)...

I dont think it will come to selling the camera but i have to ask the value and th e''just in case''

i love this hobby, and tbh its all i have now as my dog is permanently out of action (agility wise) which took up 2 evenings a week and weekends!

another reason why i dont want to give up is now im on the sidelines.....im the photographer!!!

Dont'w worry,... i guess i just paniced about my bills the other day.... i will take on another job as well as uni and the one i have now if necessary.... would rather keep my camera lol

what i paid out aswel (someone asked?)

£379 - camera with 18-55mm lense
£89 - 70-300mm lense....
some filters and a wide angle lense/about £30??
