A few I took last night with the 50mm

Ooookkkay... put this as a beginner thread because it's the first time I've used this lens, and it was a bit different for me in some ways (why I don't know, I have used 50mm on the Canon before - but this one seems different somehow). Annnyway - so here are my efforts from last night - it was getting quite dark, so I was very impressed with the performance of the lens, and I'm very happy with one or two.

Also - I've been very inspired by littleme's photos since she joined, and particularly liked the one of the dirty hands offering a flower. Sooo... in response to Azz asking me to emulate something that I really like on Yop - I did! I did my own take on that photo of littleme's

The next ones are the ones where I tried to emulate littleme's work - and also, had a play with textures, something I've not really done before. I was quite pleased with the results!

What kind of textures did you use? I've been trying to overlay textures I find on Flickr.

I just used one of the preset textures for the textured one, and can't remember exactly what I did with the other (sponge I think). The texture on the textured one was canvas I think. I must try and do more of these texture things, but have no idea what I'm doing!

Can I turn my own photos into textures? if so how?

What I have been doing is using photos of something textured then pasting them on top of my photo as a new layer, then blending them together till they look about right.
There are thousands and thousands of free ones ready to go online.

Here is an example.
I took the photo, pasted the texture photo over top then set the layer blending to 'overlay'. In this case I din't need to alter the opacity, but usually I do.
