It's a Heron!!!!!

Okay compared to Jack's very brilliant Heron pic, this is poo, but for me it is a breakthrough, a bird and you can actually tell what it is! I discovered this on a SD card, that I used a few months ago on a walk.

My very first heron pic................

Re: It's a Heron!!!!!

Suzi, try taking the water right up to the top of the shot, that way the bank will not cut across his/her head. It is undoubtedly a heron and much better than I have and probably could do.

Re: It's a Heron!!!!!

Aw thanks you are both kind I know it isn't very good, I was just pleased I had actually captured one

Excellent tip Snapper, TBH I saw it and just quickly snapped as I have never managed to get one before but if I am ever lucky enough to be out with my Oly and see one, I shall try and compose the shot better xx

Re: It's a Heron!!!!!

I agree with the comment about letting the heron keep his head! If only you had squated down a few more inches!

Nevertheless, it's a great pose on top of the buoy - and YES, it's definately a Heron.

Re: It's a Heron!!!!!

Nice shot. It's kind of 'quirky' the way the heron is perched on the bouy.

We're lucky to have a family of herons nesting by the holiday cottage. They often 'stand' fishing by the loch shore and despite thinking I've managed to capture them - the results are always 'pants'

Re: It's a Heron!!!!!

Thanks Jack and Phil, they fly off so quick, blink and it's gone

That is lucky Phil to be able to watch them, they do seem quite shy birds, I often see them walking the dogs by the river, but as soon as they see you they are gone

I think I will have to accept as much as I love wildlife ,I am not that good at capturing it
