Brands Hatch 3

My 3rd time at Brands Hatch. I only have a basic 18-55 lens so had to get as close to the track as possible.

I won't post all of them because a lot was taken in the same spot. It took me about 15 shots (trial and error) to get some blur on the wheels.

Here's 1 or 7 of todays....

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

6.

7.

No one was hurt. It's just precaution.

Look at the size of this I felt quite inadequate with my little tiddler next to his
You know what they say though, it's not the size, its how you use it......

Re: Brands Hatch 3

Thanks Mark. It's only about 15 mins away. It's not really a day out. I go up there about 4pm, ask if I can go in to take some pics, as the last race is 6.30 they let me in for free. It's the 3rd time I've been up there now. Only thought about going after seeing Kens ace racing pictures.

Re: Brands Hatch 3

Good work Dave, I've just been having a look at the bigger versions on Flickr and they are very impressive, good use of slow shutter speed too. Did you use servo AI focus instead of one shot focus?

I shouldn't lust after a big lens to much, they do have there draw backs, when I shoot some shots at the track side with 600mm (300L + x2) I quite often get problems with heat haze, also after a day of luging a big lens around track, it make you ache in places you don't normally ache

Re: Brands Hatch 3

Thanks Ken. That means a lot to me. Cheers
The first 5 shots or so I had the camera on one shot, shutter was on 1000, I looked at them and everything was frozen. Then penny then dropped, I switched it to servo focus, continuous shots, and set the shutter between 160 and 400 (Trial and error). I found at these speeds I manage to get some blur on the wheels and blur the background a little.
227 pictures later.......

That's funny, I do that some times . I'll have left the camera how I last had it set then realise 4 - 5 shots into shooting that it's on the wrong settings, I generally try and set the camera in the car before I go track-side, but not always .

My keeper rate has got very reasonable now I think you can never have enough practice, plus always try to move around a bit to make the shots look a little different.

I always use single shot mode, other wise you end up with a large number of similar looking shots to wade through later when doing your PP.

You have taken some good shoots Dave

Re: Brands Hatch 3

Out of the 227 there was around 150 that I was happy with. But then some of which were the same car just a few feet further on. I ended up keeping about 30.
