Venetian Bridges

I visited the Paphos forest yesterday - some break-taking scenery although difficult to stop anywhere and take photos as the roads were narrow, windy and dangerous! I decided instead to take a few photos of a couple of medieval Venetian bridges.

Please feel free to C&C or comment.

Re: Venetian Bridges

Looks like a lovely spot.

As for C&C

Not sure how you could have avoided it but the big dark tree in the top right is a bit intrusive.

I prefer the portrait version because of the forground. It also appears 'wider' even though it's not as wide as the first one.

I'm really looking forward to having a lens with with a wide end of 10mm or 12mm one day.

Re: Venetian Bridges

Cheers Phil - in the 2nd shot I know there are other lead-in lines, but I tried to position myself so the rocks acted like stepping stones leading to the bridge.

Couldn't do much about the dark tree other than clone it out, or dodge it down a bit - it was growing up against the bridge - but I agree, it is a strong 'feature' of the picture.

Re: Venetian Bridges

Okay Jack you are a big boy , so I know you can take it

I prefer #2 everything about the tone, colours, composition really works for me.

The first, the tree is distracting, though there is nothing you can do about it and it is a shame about the sky.

I really like the reflection in no2 as well. I really like these wide angle shots you take. Gives a really nice perspective, that draws you in.

Was that okay?

Ps those are "lovely" bridges, I love them

Re: Venetian Bridges

I like both of these photos Jack with my fav being the second. I love the composition that uses the stream, rocks & reflection to lead your eyes toward the main subject, the bridge. The first photo would be equally attractive if it weren't for the patches of light through the sparse background. Great series!

Re: Venetian Bridges

I would imagine you captured in RAW mode Jack so have you tried an adjustment layer to pull out more detail out of the large dark tree. You may be able to lighten it & add more detail to soften it's dominant effect in the total scene. Example below:

Re: Venetian Bridges

First the subject, I love them what lovely bridges simple but effective or they would not still be standing.

Prefer the second, like the composition better, in fact I think it well conceived and executed. The first is disappointing in the sky but I find the way the tree follows the lines of the bridge fascinating and would wish to see if the mimicry continue to the point, it is this I find distracting not the tree its self.

Re: Venetian Bridges

Looks like a lovely place JR. I like the compo of the first, just a shame about the blown out sky.
