Re: St Marks

Hello,

I like this image, the framing of the trees works well and the building is suitably interesting to hold someones attention.

Annoyingly the building looks wonky, but is indeed upright .

I like the person in the door, I might dodge that area a bit to make them more obvious.

Nice image.

Re: St Marks

Well spotted WW

They do tend to disappear into the entrance, but I kinda liked that with the way the pic comes across.

I had a hell of a time rotating it this way and that trying to get it to look right, it's on quite a steep hill so it throws it out somehow on the screen.

Re: St Marks

I think the picture is well done, and the best of that particular building on that day. Framing, the trees, don't like the flag pole but can't help that. However I have to be honest and say I find this picture is like many others, wide angle, building looks imposing and sky greyed out to give it that sinister feel. It's nothing personal, I've said this point before about other pictures that follow this similar recipe but they all get a bit 'the same' for me.

Re: St Marks

Thanks for the comment BC.

I do however, not really understand the comment about using a similar recipe, if it's a different subject then it's a different picture. If the same angle of a similar thing is to be avoided then do you apply the same theory to a portrait or an animal shot? My birds on sticks thread for example, same angle different subject I should only have ever done that once. Same for portraits, if you have took a pic with a certain pose should you never repeat it even with a different person?

When you break it down you can apply that same synopsis to any area of photography. You could say the same about mono images or sepia toned images or HDR or whatever.

I think you just don't like this 'style' which is fair enough, at least you did at least point out some positives.

I tend not to comment on areas that I don't feel any affinity with as I don't feel any comments I make would help the photographer, especially if they were in the vein of 'this doesn't float my boat'

Re: St Marks

Actually I feel as qualified and justified and entitled as anyone else to comment whether it floats my boat or not. I think the picture is well taken technically, but I do feel some of these architecture shots follow a similar theme of presentation as I described. Wide angle, imposing viewpoint, stormy sky, can't help but feel I have seen it many times and it would take something special to make me feel it is different. In fact, actually, yes, in photography many 'receipes' are repeated and many pictures don't stand out as 'different and grabs attention'. The bird pictures SK did actually did look different to me and I commented I liked them. Maybe in bird photography circles its a common way of doing it but to me they grabbed my attention as something a bit different. Sure, after I had seen half a dozen of 'em I got the idea and would find it a bit repetitive if everyone was doing them the same.

Of course I pointed out positives. I wasn't out to just slag it off I was out to give my honest opinion.
