Action shots

I'm having some problems with anything moving, so i have been practising on Poppy my springer, she is my all action hero, the end game is to photo birds in flight, but since having some health issues moving targets are not so easy, at first i was just so please to be able to pick up my camera again, but now i want to go forward, so any tips or comments i'll be grateful for

I can't give you tips as I'm learning this too. I do like these pictures. Your dog is lovely. Even though it's not a action shot..... no6

Re: Action shots

You've started well - getting the subject sharp helps. Looks like the light wasn't great - am I right? I find with action shots, especially birds in flight, you need really good light too. I'm afraid I'm not much good with offering advice, but my best bet for you - as it's what I do myself - is to use spot metering, have good light, and by increasing ISO and going wide with the aperture, get a good fast shutter speed. Also, practise!

Re: Action shots

Hi Musky

Your lucky to have such a willing subject but springers seem to have endless amounts of energy .

I can't give any specific advice as I'm not familiar with your particular camera, but what I would say is practise tracking and keeping the subject under the focus point your using as best you can. Then pick the shutter speed that is required for your type of subject, fast for freezing action or slow for sense of speed and movement.

Re: Action shots

Some good tips in the thread - try upping the ISO and using faster shutter speeds too
