Re: For Sale : Nikon 50mm f1.8D Nifty-fifty!

Hi Blackcloud,

I've had a think about it and as much as i'd love to buy it I just can't afford it at the moment - car tax, MOT and insurance coming up next month and a hefty vet bill!!

Thanks for taking the time to explain it to me though and I will definitely consider getting one in the future when the bank manager lets me!!

Good luck with the sale!

Ooooh 50mm 1.4 - shame I'm a canon user, I'd LOVE that lens!
Good luck finding buyers. Those lenses usually do well on E Bay.

Re: For Sale : Nikon 50mm f1.8D Nifty-fifty!

Both are lovely lenses, a joy to use when you consider so many people have cumbersome zooms. The fixed focal length makes you concentrate on the picture, not messing around zooming in and out. Both are excellent quality but the f1.4 has a one stop advantage. Not just in light gathering, but the fact that it can be stopped down to f1.8 and it is already top notch...the f1.8 works fine wide open but the better quality comes at f2.8. The 1.4 has slightly better bokeh, it has better construction but thats not to take anything away from the f1.8 which is a brilliant lens. Suprised no one bought it tbh, but in the main most people here probably don't photograph the right subject matter. The f1.8's hold their value well as they are very popular but the f1.4 Ithink is a keen price as many do seem to come with the box and command around £180+

Absolutely right Azz, it does have better bokeh, but of course you would be paying over £200 for the G version. TBH, with a D300, the D version is just as good. I'm not sure I like some of the G lenses as they are plasticky, and the 35mm G has no manual apperture control, tiny focus ring etc. Much prefer my 35mm f2 D version.

Shame BC, think a few have missed out on a bargain here. My 50mm has been a constant since I bought it, and for landscapes as well as portrait. Harbour shot that i put on the other day was taken with it.

Thanks Sk, yes, I wanted to give the folks here an opportunity. I think both are a keen price, particulary a chance to get the f1.4. I still have both if anyone wants to consider. I haven't actively advertised elsewhere yet.
