Taking pics of buildings

As you've probably noticed, when taking pics of tall buildings, the image of the structure seems squeezed in at the top.
If you're using PS, click on edit, then transform, then distort.
You'll see the pic outlined by an adjustable grid, place the mouse cursor on the upper left corner point and drag it to left, do the same for the righthand side, if the structure looks a bit too wide, place the cursor on the top center point and drag upwards, it makes all the difference.

Re: Taking pics of buildings

Here's an example of one

Not the best pic but I chose it to show the perspective correction.

Before (perspective normal)

After (perspective altered to make the building appear straighter)

Re: Taking pics of buildings

Fine example Phil.

Question: am I right in saying the lenses for doing this effect years ago were called "foreshortening" lenses. C'mon oldies, can you remember that far back.

I have somebody to do it for me

Dunrobin castle is on the east coast of the Northern Highlands over-looking the Moray Firth' just north of the town of Golspie.
It is the family home of the Earls and later, the Dukes of Sutherland, they and their forbears have lived there since the 1300's.

The core of the house dates from the 1300's but the bulk of what the visitor sees was built in the 1800's . Designed by Sir Charles Barry, who also built The Houses of Parliament.

If your back fence is anything to go by the ivy will take over the house.

Re: Taking pics of buildings

That is a good example Phil! Can I ask what focal length the shot was taken on and whether it was on a cropped sensor or not?

Thanks.
