Re: NIkon D400

I would guess around summer Moonie. I think it approx. a 2 year cycle (arrived 08/2006-ish) but I guess if they have some technology waiting Nikon may jump in to the market early but I doubt they are ready to cease the D300. Will be expensive too. If you have that money you would be buying a D700 now! If you are starting a rumour to force down the price of the D300 I'm with you all the way... Should see £50 off that or maybe as much as £100 early into the new year - or maybe nothing, who knows. Personally I'm wondering if they will get much more out of the next generation D400. Can they squeeze much more out of Dx sensors? Full frame will be the way to in the medium term... (famous last words I'm sure...)

Re: NIkon D400

LOL like me starting a rumour would affect the D300 price, I wish!

I have read it several places on the net, so just wondered if there was any truth

You brought up a good pointed BC (shocked) I have read a few discussions and articles, by people more knowledgable in these matters. That the cropped sensor camera really can't be pushed much more, where the full frame cameras still have loads of scope. I am not interested in a camera that is also a video camera, as I have a brilliant one already.
You can tell that I am secretly hoping that when I get to the States, the D700 has dropped a bit

Re: NIkon D400

Ken Rockwell's site says it would have a 3.5" touch screen (like an i-phone)

You see so many different predictions though.

Re: NIkon D400

Ooooo when I mentioned this a few weeks ago, you all said no, it was too soon.

So what do you think now? There is usually some truth to these rumours

Re: NIkon D400

I forgot you posted that Moon! Will merge the threads

I still think it's too soon. While that touch screen option sounds great - I don't see why it would be needed for a camera :-/

Re: NIkon D400

rumours about the D400 are just that.

http://timsphoto.wordpress.com/2008/07/17/nikon-d400/

pretty convincing? Nikon confrim it's a spoof - but are enjoying the pre-sales marketing; thank you very much!!

Re: NIkon D400

Well I did say earlier it would break the approx 2 year cycle so due summer time...and Nikon are enjoying the D300 as still a benchmark camera to beat (50D beats it fractionally on resolution but overall less of a camera taking all things into account on the tests I have read). I won't be buying a D400 at this stage. The release price will be difficult as it can't be as high as the D300 when that came out because that's approx. where the D700 is now.
