Nikon Lens Replacements Due

Rumour mill reckons a few Nikon lens are due to be replaced at Photokina, they are:

AF-S 50mm 1.4 G
AF-S 85mm 1.4 G
AF-S 70-200mm 2,8 VRII

Nikon Australia is already showing the 85/1.4 as "out of production, discontinued or no longer available in your country":

And I was half set on getting the 50/1.4 too!

Does that mean you can no longer get the 85 1.4? And don't you think that new one will be a lot more expensive?

You can still get it... but only just Looks like they have started to phase them out (Australia was 1st to see them go).

I don't think there will be much of a price difference tbh but hopefully (and more importantly) the new ones will be an improvement - and made with the new camera models in mind (that's good news for us)

I think I will hold off on getting the 50/1.4 and see what the replacement is like.

I've heard a little bit about the new 50 mm 1.4 AF-S, and the price difference is pretty big. Can't remember exactly how much, but it's quite a bit =/ But I don't know. Will just have to wait and see. Going to the states for two months in January, and gonna buy whatever I'm gonna get over there where it's about half price compared to here in Norway. Want a few bees for portraits too! Man I gotta work my ass of! Or win the lottery or something =P

Yeah why is it that the prices are so much cheaper in the US!!? Not fair!!

How much have you heard for the 50/1.4? If it's too much I'll just get the 1.8

As I said, I don't remember exactly how much. I think I read it at www.nikonrumours.com. Don't know how much of that you can trust to be true, but it sounded legit. I love my 50 mm 1.4, can't see anything I would want to change about it. And that 85 1.4 sure looks killer as well! So I'm not to stoked on paying double for something extra I don't need if you know what I mean.. I've heard a lot of nice things about the 1.8 as well, but the ones who know what they're talking about say that you can't even compare those two. Don't know how much difference I would notice, but it's always fun to know that you have the best possible gear you can get =P

Yeah I think they covered the rumour too, like all tho - you have to take them with a pinch of salt.

The only criticism I have heard about the 50mm and 85mm is that they were designed for olders cameras - and that it's better to get lens that were designed with the newer digital cameras in mind.

Must say that I have seen some excellent shots with DX specific lens on DX cameras tho - such as the 17-55.

I'd love to be able to test them side by side just to see for myself how they fair
