The Old Olive mill

Yesterday I took my parents to visit a traditional old working Olive Mill. Locals bring their olives to the mill where they will press them for the oil and pay according to the weight of the crop and the yield of oil.

Inside the olive mill.

The mill stone is driven by water on a centrifugal drop.

Outside of the mill.

(apologies for the thin red line across the photo - it's not on the photo but was on the uploaded image in flickr).

Re: The Old Olive mill

Photographers heaven in there!

I can see so many pictures, like those chairs, the baskets, the bowls, the wheel thing....

I do like the first one best, great tones and light, and an interesting subject.

Re: The Old Olive mill

Youre right moonie - it is a photographer's paradise; and I take advantage of it!

unfortunately the quaint old antiquities of Cyprus are being replaced with modern stuff - nowhere near as photogenic IMO.

Re: The Old Olive mill

At least, you get a chance to photograph them, before they disappear forever .

I do love those wonky chairs

Re: The Old Olive mill

Very sad to see this sort of thing disappearing. I love old machinery and you have done it justice, when I was in Spain this year they were crushing, or what ever it's called, the olives in small village groups it was very picturesque and very very noisy.
