Re: Thistle

Not sure either Laura, my eye keeps wandering all over, and I want it to go to the centre thistles

Well exposed, and love the colour and detail, just seems to need more of a focal point.

Re: Thistle

Mmm... you know, I think that's the problem I'm having with it too. How would I remedy that? or is it just too busy because of the amount of spines? I do like that it's a bit unsettling in a way - as I find thistles pretty unsettling anyway - but I think it could be a bit less harsh on the eye. Perhaps making the purple heads more central?

Re: Thistle

Think you were just a day to early and the flower need to open a little further. I love thistles and am happy to have the leaves included again it is very vibrant; can't be your monitor because these are straight from the camera, do me a favour and turn the vibrancy down a bit in the camera and take a few shot to see if it makes any difference. Or perhaps check what it is set too incase it has got it's self turned on full some how.

Re: Thistle

I will have a go - if it is set to any weird thing it must be accidental, as I'm not even sure how to do it! Will have a play about!

Re: Thistle

Poor Z you do seem to be getting a lot of attention of late, still better than being ignored.

Somewhere in the Nikon menu there will be a way to reduce the colour sensitivity either on block or each of the 3 colours separately, if it is separate try just the green to start with and leave the red and blue to see how things look. Only change a little at a time.

It would be best if you could try it in Photoshop first then you would be able to see what needed changing but you can do it in camera as anything you do can be returned to default normally with the click of one item.

A camera should record colours as they are and I believe you when you say that is how the colours are but they do always look over the top particularly the greens.

Please bear in mind I do not own Nikons so I don't know what the menu system is like, if you are lucky it may be an external control or on the Fn menu. Good luck perhaps a Nikon owner will help.

Re: Thistle

I love detail in a nature shot like this. However, when the entire frame is intricate and sharp you lose a focal point. I believe a slight vignette carefully changing the lighting scheme of the thistle itself along with light Gaussian blur to less critical parts of the capture works better. Great composition and exposure on the original by the way.
