Some more shots from Reen...

Yes, I know I should have changed the lens... but I was really quite pleased with these. It's no small feat for me to be even slightly happy with anything i shoot these days, so I wonder how long it'll last I expect when I look at them again tomorrow I'll wonder what I was thinking and hate them!

Anyway - thought I'd share.

2 slightly different monos

Re: Some more shots from Reen...

Don't worry - I like your shoes!!

Colour one is my fave! I love the greens in the woods! The tones are all a little bit "samey" in the mono ones (sorry, don't know how to word it in a more photographer-y way!")

Re: Some more shots from Reen...

I was attempting for a range of tones (hence there being several attempts ) but it just wasn't happening.

Re: Some more shots from Reen...

Laura I think these shots have a huge potential, try different crops? get rid of the dull sky in no2 crop it down to just below the begining of the trees to a more panoramic crop, and I think it will work better. No3 the opposite get rid of the beach and upturned boat. The colour version the same crop again, but up the saturation. The first one I'd make into a square crop, with the boat slightly off centre.

I might be talking out my backside so feel free to ignore me XXXX

Re: Some more shots from Reen...

Ok my thoughts. The first has to much of a green hue when comparing it with the last picture, if it were me I would try to get a bit more of a blue colour overall look, not much but just a bit.
Or as an alternate solution add a bit of sky as a contrast which is in the other picture number 4.

Normally to make a fair assessment of a picture one would preferably actually be there when the picture was taken. This applies especially to landscape pictures looking natural.
Luckily in this case we have a comparison between picture 1 and picture 4 although taken frome a slightly different position.

Maybe the green of the trees dominates the first picture a bit too much which is why I prefer the last picture.

As for the 2 mono pictures the first is a little sharper than the second so my vote would go on the first mono.

Any photo is viewed in a different way, and at the end of the day it is what the photographer likes, if others like it then its a bonus

Re: Some more shots from Reen...

Thank you Bazza - very helpful indeed. I can see most people seem to have some issue with the first - which is fair enough - I was hesitant about it too - with the lack of sky etc, and no - it doesn't really work.

Re: Some more shots from Reen...

I have taken the liberty to have a little play with your first photo if you don't mind.

There is a bit more variety in the tree colours which works better for me and gets rid of that overall green effect.
Only thing now is a "line" to the left of the boat between the water and the start of the tree leaves has appeared and continues slightly on the right of the boat as well, but that can be easily dealt with in P/P. it shows up now I have lightened the picture a bit
