Re: An assortment of macro stuff from Friday :)

No, I didn't mean a teleconverter - I meant a thingamajig that converts canon lenses to nikon fit and vice versa... I thought it was a wind up - but it was in a reputable magazine, being sold by an apparently reputable seller :/

Re: An assortment of macro stuff from Friday :)

In fact - just found this - http://photo.net/canon-eos-digital-camera-forum/00GbKB

Worth a read... look for the post that says certain ones enable you to focus beyond infinity! My maths is bad... but that can't possibly be right? Unless Buzz Lightyear is behind the camera!

Oh yeah.

You can buy a Canon lens to Nikon camera adaptor ring or indeed a Nikon Lens to Canon adaptor ring which are genuine enough. I looked into this as there's so many different adaptors banded about on places like ebay. Some are are meant to be good (but very expensive) and others are poor - I think most of the time your electrical contacts are disabled so it's a manual job.

I think at the 'quality end' of the mix and match there's a system from Novoflex but they're expensive. Quote Ken Rockwell - which allows Nikon lenses on Canon EOS body as Canon cameras have a shorter distance between the lens flange and film plane than Nikon. Therefore there are a couple of millimeters left over into which a metal mounting adaptor can fit.

Re: An assortment of macro stuff from Friday :)

Hmm! Trust my kit to be the wrong one! From what you've said it'd be easier if I had Canon ah well!

I wouldn't mind manual, most of my macro is damn nigh manual anyway - I always use the manual override. Am now seriously considering this....

Re: An assortment of macro stuff from Friday :)

I'd have a really good read about it all first.

It's one thing buying some sort of adaptor to make use of some really expensive (otherwise redundant) lens you already own but investing in a lens to use with an adaptor is a different box of frogs all together.

Re: An assortment of macro stuff from Friday :)

Yes absolutely... i was hesitant enough about the extension tubes! Don't even start me on filters... It's not something I'd rush into - if I ever bothered. It may be less hassle and less worry if I were to buy a Canon and the lens to go with it, and use it exclusively for that sort of thing!

One day... when I can justify it!
