It's a brilliant picture but I wouldn't be so dismissive of your own ability. If you think out how this was done then it's seeing or creating the opportunity, having the equipment and the technical ability. Many people see something but maybe don't consider or have the opportunity to change our view point - physical barriers, lack of imagination etc.. This picture works because Tommy has seen an interesting subject and vantage point and then thought about his equipment capability and the exposure. "Fish eye would be great here, I can control any flare because it's quality glass, then I'll need to bang in some flash or reflector to get some detail into the subject because the sun is behind" "wouldn't it be great if a jet flew over right now...oh wow!" Sorry! Absolutely no intention to be over simplistic or dismissive of what has gone on here. On the contrary I am trying to instill confidence in others! We can get shots like that with a little thought and luck i.e. the snow boarding is something that is exciting and few of us can do, the vapour trail was possibily random good luck. Sadly few of us can personally afford a D300 and Nikon Fish Eye lens with professional flash units but if we understand the technical and artistic aspect it can lead to some experimentation with what equipemnt you have. Hope everyone reads that in the context it's meant. It's a brilliant picture and Tommy has got a great technical ability and creative way of thinking to achieve it! My intention is just to encourage others to have a go!

Re: Alex - Switch Tail 270

Kind of you BC, I have been in the experimental stage for the last 30 years so have given up on ever being sure the settings I use will produce the effect I hope. Suppose one needs to stick with it and not have big gaps when one does not use the camera and forgets most of what one has learnt. Still it is great when I have success and I do still know what I like
