Re: Smoke trails

How cool are these, this was way before I joined.

Glad you gave the info on how to do it, may give this a go. I need the dreaded tripod for these I suppose

As if I was needing to feel any older

Give it a go - it's trial and error but once you've got your light sussed and the focus set in the right place, switch off your AF, leave evrything in place and click away.

Tripod..yes but any old tripod will do as the only thing you should see (the smoke) is moving anyway so 'rock solid' isn't required.

I may do some more actually as they're a fun thing that can be done late at night if need be.

Re: Smoke trails

Man you are touchy about your age today

Anyway you are younger than me I think, 38

My tripod is quite good, I just can't get to grips with using one, it feels awkwardBut i wil have a go.

By the way that film arrived today, going to watch it tomorrow.

Re: Smoke trails

I'm 37 today.

I've no problems - I still feel about 12 LOL

What's so hard about a tripod ?

My favourite bit of kit.

Crap for dogs and moving things but you're into flowers so you should really embrace it. Taking them indoors or on a still day you can chuck away 'false' flash and use long exposures which you just cant beat.

I dont always have one with me for landscapes but If I picked my best ones - chances are they would have been taken with a tripod.

Hope you like the film !!!

Re: Smoke trails

I don't think I matured past 18 still waiting to be a "grown up"

Don't know I just find the whole tripod thing awkward, and I love to move about with the camera and I find it frustrating.

I have thought about getting a monopod for walking about, like landscapes, but I understand I need a tripod for these situations. My tutor tells me to keep practising with them, and it won't be so awkward I will get there
