Still it is interesting to be different and he does not look worried in fact he looks a very happy dog.
It's ironic, he is so badly bred, and yet he does have fab ears , He is much bigger than my old GSD, but when his tail is down, he is like a supersized GSD .

I have thought about a DNA test, but so many people say they are unreliable. Everybody, seems to see different breeds in him

Moonie, I don't know much about dogs but I'm interested what the argument is for DNA testing in dogs being unreliable? I do know a little bit about DNA in humans.

Re: 3 faces

Think that DNA testing if fine for hereditary diesese and parentage but is not so good when trying to determine a breed, not surprising if you think about it as dogs are all one basic species and although the test may be able to say the dog is mainly from Africa or the Arctic it is unlikely to be able to say what breeds are in the dog as most breeds are a mix and some are one hell of a mix being crossbred x mongrel.

Not surprised to hear he is a big dog as I think that although he looks like a GSD cross the ears, build and angulation are defiantly spitz type so it may well be far more (GSD x Mal/GSD) x (Mal/Sib x Mal) but it is just guessing. We all know these type of breeder will do anything to get a pup that will sell for big money and I have no doubt your boy and his siblings would have been very attractive pups and lets face it he look very attractive as an adult.

Re: 3 faces

Hi BC, Like Snaps said, it's a bit hit and miss when determining breeds . It's great to prove parentage etc, and in an ideal world if all pups were DNA profiled, then it would be impossible for people to falsify pedigrees etc.

Most ,if not all DNA tests for dogs are performed in the US, so the DNA database they have will be from mostly American bloodlines, and about a third of all breeds that are known are on the database. I think it's something like 60 breeds, they can test for. But, these things improve all the time, so maybe I will get it done in the future.

Snaps, he was an adorable looking puppy, and not one that I ever intended getting, but when I saw him, in totally the wrong hands and environment, I couldn't resist, and wanted to give him a better future than he had at that time. But, I am totally against anybody breeding this type of dog, they aren't easy family pets, don't get me wrong, he adores the family, and anybody else for that matter, but an easy dog ,he isn't

Re: 3 faces

Many thanks for explaining both of you. Can understand that principle. Interesting to see how some principles apply that mirror the human dna database and the information tha can be inferred from that.

That Suzi would be the spitz in him, next to the wild dogs they are probable the least biddable, the least refined and most independent, defiantly not a GSD trait they will do anything to please you, spitz will only please themselves and that is what I love about them, masochistic I suppose.
