Yes, it does, the lamps I have used have a fan and that fan is noisy even though they were produced for use with video the noise from the lamps was something we always had to overcome.

but then some members on flickr say that sb24 or sb25 is very good so now im confused lol!

im i right that you can have these flashes on camera or on stand with a brolly ?
There are loads of people that use the older SBs and are very happy with them. Its down to preference. It all depends on what you want to get out of them. SB600/800/900 hae much more control over output and power, but if your happy with the SB24/25 then thats all good too

Yes you can mount them onto a stand, you need a special brack. The name eludes me at the mo!

Re: Studio Lighting - is this kit any good?

Two SB 600s then? Or do you have to have at least 1 sb-800 to act as the 'commander'?

Re: Studio Lighting - is this kit any good?

The SB600 works in commander mode fine, and should work fine to trigger the second if you havnt programmed that one it to the D300 ( I think you can have up to 4 strobes connected in commander mode...

I would say get 2 600s or a 600 and 24.

sb24's are no longer made tho?

This is what Bazza wrote in another thread:

Another difference is the SB800 can be used as a command flash to control other flashguns (nikon) wheras the SB600 can't.

My 600 triggers fine from commander mode. However im not very clued up on the 800 to say wether you can put it in commander mode aswell or you need something else to trigger it. its hard to explain when you havnt got the stuff infront of you. Iv always used the one 600 and the cheapy strobe and brolly i bought. Iv not worked with the 800 yet. Ill look into more.........

Yes your right with the 24, i was thinking of the 400!
