Re: Conservation walk, before the thunderstorms.

Thanks Laura, seemed to be quite a few about last week. Not seen a Peacock, Red Admiral or Purple Emperor this year yet. Is it a little early?

Re: Conservation walk, before the thunderstorms.

No Richard, in fact the butterflies should have been around at the beginning of May. The exceptional rainfall we have experienced has decimated the butterfly population - so much so that there is going to be a national butterfly count on the Internet.

Just Google butterfly count.

One good thing, the wet weather has done for the wasps as well.

Re: Conservation walk, before the thunderstorms.

A good set Richard, its a sad story with a lot of the usual insects this year, Damselflies, Dragonflies and Butterflies just some that have suffered. As Fogey mentioned, beginning of May for a few species. Other species you may not see around until June/July. Last year for me it was Mid July seeing Butterflies in numbers around where i live and over in the chalkhills of the Chilterns.

Re: Conservation walk, before the thunderstorms.

Hopefully there will be some more species about later. But I don't think I can remember a summer as bad as this.
